I provide full diagnostic assessment tests for dyslexia in children aged 7 to 14. These assessments can be conducted in schools or privately, either at my home in Chalfont St Peter, Gerrards Cross, or at the Jordans Quaker Centre in Beaconsfield. Once a suitable date has been arranged, you will receive an email outlining the steps to take before the assessment, along with details on what to bring on the day.
Attached to the email, you will find a family questionnaire, a questionnaire for your child’s school, and a visual screening difficulties questionnaire. I believe in a holistic, collaborative approach to understanding a child’s strengths and weaknesses. To ensure a comprehensive assessment, it is essential to gather this background information, including developmental and educational history. These forms must be returned at least 7 days before the assessment takes place. It is essential that your child has had a recent eye test (within the past two years) before the dyslexia assessment is conducted.
The assessment usually takes between 2-2.5 hours. Although this may seem like a long duration, I typically find that children enjoy the assessments, and the time tends to pass quickly for them. Thank you for meeting with X this week. He mentioned that he thoroughly enjoyed doing his assessment with you. He said, "I didn't feel like an assessment as it was so much fun."
Following the assessments, I will prepare a detailed written report outlining your child’s test scores and providing tailored recommendations for support. The report will be emailed to you within three weeks of the assessment, though it is often completed and sent much sooner.
After reviewing the report, you are welcome to arrange a telephone consultation to address any questions you may have.
Pricing
The cost of a full diagnostic assessment is £575. This includes the complete assessment, a detailed written report with tailored recommendations, and a 30-minute follow-up telephone consultation, if needed.

Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling. Characteristic features of dyslexia are difficulties in phonological awareness, verbal memory and verbal processing speed.
Dyslexia occurs across the range of intellectual abilities. Co-occurring difficulties may be seen in aspects of language, motor co-ordination, mental calculation, concentration and personal organisation, but these are not, by themselves, markers of dyslexia. A good indication of the severity and persistence of dyslexic difficulties can be gained by examining how the individual responds or has responded to well-founded intervention." (Rose Report 2009)
In addition to these characteristics, the BDA acknowledges the visual and auditory processing difficulties that some individuals with dyslexia can experience and points out that dyslexic readers can show a combination of abilities and difficulties that affect the learning process. Some have strengths in other areas, such as design, problem solving, creative skills, interactive skills, and oral skills. (British Dyslexia Association definition of Dyslexia, 2019)
